Reasons to Avoid Bunderson Finishing
There are plenty of reasons to not use us.
1. You Can Do It Yourself
Cabinet refinishing isn’t rocket science. There are bloggers and YouTubers ready to guide you every step of the way. Here’s the DIY playbook:
- Buy some cabinet-grade paint – we recommend Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane for DIYers (not for professionals).
- If you care about a smooth finish, invest in a paint sprayer (HVLP or Airless); or grab a brush and roller, embrace brushstrokes and dimpling, and save yourself both a headache and a few hundred dollars.
- Prep like crazy: clean, sand, mask, prime, putty, sand, paint (repeat).
For most kitchens, a professional should expect to expend about 55 man-hours of labor. If it’s your first time, you’ll exceed 70 hours but you CAN save a lot of time by opting for a brush and not a sprayer (masking is the biggest time-sink for beginners). This is a great way to actually get a positive ROI on the work.
2. Eco-Friendliness is Not Our Highest Priority
As a rule, “eco-friendly” is code for ineffective in the coatings industry. We apply Milesi Coatings to all the kitchens we service. They are plenty safe, but the priority is on durability for your home. If your home smells for a day or two after the job is complete, our view is that’s a small price to pay for a kitchen that will last years longer than the alternative.
3. We Will Not Refinish Your Cabinet Doors
We do not refinish your existing doors and drawer fronts. Instead we replace them with brand-new doors of your chosen style. We pair that with refinishing your cabinet bases. Down the road a few months or years, you’ll love the new look still. Without new doors, the kitchen is likely to disappoint you fairly soon.
4. We’re “Not Cheap”
This is a premium service aimed at achieving long-term kitchen beauty and use. If you want a quick cosmetic change or are looking to make your home sell quickly for a bit more, find a painting company that offers cabinet painting. There are reasonable prices to be found from several companies in the area that will meet your needs.
5. We Don’t Offer Special Discounts for Select Groups
We very much appreciate seniors, friends & family, veterans, active-duty military, teachers, first-responders, etc., but there is no alternative pricing tier available to them, or any other group.
6. You Won’t Get Every Penny Back
No remodel—big or small—will return more than you spent. If you are being told this, be cautious. A full kitchen remodel, costing $30,000 to $100,000, will recoup at best 50% of the costs in increased home-value. Our projects typically recoup about 80% of the investment. Spend $10,000 with us, and your home’s value will likely increase by ~$8,000. If you’re looking for a pure financial windfall, there are better ways to invest your money. But if you want a gorgeous kitchen you’ll enjoy every day, then we’re here for it.
